2024 First Triathlon

Sherri and I took the leap into triathlons this year. Sherri entered a race located not more than a couple miles from our old home in Lino Lakes called the Women’s Trifecta. She entered a race for first-timers with distances a little shorter than a Sprint Triathlon, finishing 8th overall and second in her age category.

FREE Tacos at the finish!!!

I entered the Maple Grove Triathlon, which we later found out is one of the largest sanctioned races in the Twin Cities area where athletes can qualify for nationals. I entered the International race with Olympic distances: 0.9 mile swim, 24.9 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run. I finished 98th overall out of 341 participants at 2 hr. 28 min. Swim: 29:31 minutes; Bike: 1 hr. 9 min.; Run: 44:32 minutes (7:10 mile pace). Not bad for a 50 year old rookie, but I was small potatoes compared to some of the elite athletes competing that day.
