This was our 7th annual 15K Hot Chocolate race along the Mississippi in downtown minneapolis. Caroline and the girls drove up from Kentucky to join us for the event. It turned out to be a gorgeous 50 degree day with a touch of wind as we crossed the St. Anthony bridge. Unfortunately, there weren’t nearly as many participants as we’ve seen in the past- sorry St. Judes Children’s Hospital. Sherri finished 23rd in her age bracket- right in the middle of the pack, and I finished 6th out of 370 total runners, 1st in my age bracket. The top 5 finishers all came in under an hour (ridiculously fast), and I led the second wave of finishers at 1:04:12 (6:52 mile pace). There was some chatter amongst our team about possibly expanding our horizons, and maybe training for a sprint triathlon (½ mille swim, 12 mile bike, and 3 mile run). I’m fairly confident that I could compete at olympic triathlon distances (double the lengths). My mile swims are consistently around 30 minutes. I’ve got a slick new road bike that would make light work of the 26 miles, and a 6 mile run to boot. The trick will be performing them consecutively. Maybe this summer?
